Vitamin D may Prevent Vision Loss in AMD Patients
Elderly women under the age of 75 years who suffer from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) could prevent vision loss by taking Vitamin D.
More than 1,300 women were observed by researchers from University of Buffalo who found that those women under the age of 75 years who had high levels of vitamin D in their blood and whose vitamin consumption from various food sources was also high had the least risk of losing their vision due to AMD.

According to the researchers, women whose vitamin D consumption saw the risk of suffering from the disease cut down by more than half.

“More studies are needed to verify  this association as well as to  better understand the potential interaction between vitamin D status and genetic and lifestyle factors with respect to risk of  early AMD”, lead researcher Dr Amy  Millen wrote in her report that has been published in the journal Archives of Ophthalmology.
