Vitamins may not protect against cancer say researchers

There appears to be no conclusive proof that consuming additional vitamins can offset cancer, according to researchers from the American Cancer Society

There appears to be no conclusive proof that consuming additional vitamins can offset cancer, according to researchers from the American Cancer Society. This is further corroborated by the Council for Responsible Nutrition.

Though many medical specialists still prescribe vitamins to patients for maintaining all round health, Eric Jacobs, senior epidemiologist and vitamin specialist with the American Cancer Society says "There is no vitamin or mineral supplement proven to reduce the risk of cancer."

Dr. J. Michael McGinnis, chairman of the vitamin study spearheaded by the National Institutes of Health reports says “More than half of Americans are taking dietary supplements - mostly multivitamins - but scientists aren't certain about their benefit. For something used so widely, at such expense, among Americans, there is simply a need for much better information."
