Want To Be Healthy: Just Write!

Sounds bizarre! Not, if latest research is to be believed. Venting out ones’ feelings in the form of writing is very beneficial to health.

Sounds bizarre! Not, if latest research is to be believed. Venting out ones’ feelings in the form of writing is very beneficial to health.

Researchers at the University of Colorado and Rochester Psychiatric Centre reveal that there are interesting links between language content and health effects.

Previous work has suggested that expressive writing has health benefits. If people write out their feelings, fears and worries it has both physical and psychological benefits.

Two groups of students whose parents were divorced were asked to write about either how they felt about the split or about time management. One subject was emotional and one more neutral. The subject was reflected in the language content as analysed by the researchers. They thought there'd be no health benefits from writing about the neutral subject - but there was! This suggests that the act of writing itself may be therapeutic.

So if you like writing in a journal - or even a web log - you might be doing your health a lot of good.
