 Was the Cancer Cell Smiling?
During their quest in understanding the behavior of the beta-catenin protein which causes cancer, scientists at Westmead Millennium Institute for Medical Research at the University of Sydney were surprised to find a smiley face on a cancer protein when they viewed it through a microscope.
This unique finding is rather ironic as the diagnosis of cancer is capable of wiping the smile off victims’ face.

There have been few other times in medical history when a human like image has revealed itself in unexpected places.

Professor Beric Henderson, head of the gene expression laboratory, said: “We have actually never seen anything like it before. People here were getting very excited by the image. It can get very dull and boring. It certainly causes eye strain and some might say some mental health problems as well."
