As much as 618 gastroenteritis cases have been reported from Mumbai.
It has been diseases galore for sometime in the magnificent city of Mumbai and the BMC is trying hard to control the spread of disease. After the rounds of malaria, dengue and gastroenteritis, there is notorious cholera, also known as infectious gastroenteritis stalking the city.Masjid Bunder from Navin Mohan, the first reported case from the city is a suspected cholera victim. He was taken to the GT Hospital only last week due to vomiting and diarrhea. He is presently receiving treatment at the Kasturba Hospital for infectious diseases.
Dr Neera Kewalramani, head epidemiological cell of BMC, confirming that precautionary measures have begun said, “BMC has already conducted a house to house survey. No other family in the area was found to be showing any symptoms of gastroenteritis or cholera.”
Mainly consumption of contaminated food and water causes cholera. In the absence of proper hygiene and control measures, cholera can spread very easily, causing an epidemic.
