Weigh-Ins at Doctor's Office May Not Help Overweight Kids

A new study by researchers at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia suggests that weigh-ins at a doctor's office and weight recommendations may not actually help overweight children.

The study involved 258 children ages 5 to 10. The children were divided into two groups; one group received advice on weight control and diet, while the other group was not given any advice.

After a follow-up period of 12 months, the researchers found no significant differences in weight gain among kids in either group.

Lead researcher Dr. Melissa Wake said that more research was needed to find ways to effectively tackle child obesity. The details of the study appear in the BMJ.
