What happens when Medications go wrong?

Have you ever wondered how the dosages of drugs are determined? How drugs are being tested? On whom are these tested and who tests them? What happens

Have you ever wondered how the dosages of drugs are determined? How drugs are being tested? On whom are these tested and who tests them? What happens if the dosages are unwittingly missed? Or worse still if harmful drugs are tested on unwitting patients what happens? Who answers these questions?

In a shocking revelation, a study in the U.S.A. has revealed that in many instances about a third of medication errors that result in a patient being harmed are initiated or perpetuated by healthcare workers who aren't being told of their involvement in those mishaps. This opens up a Pandora’s box on medical ethics and the matter assumes monstrous proportions if the unwitting error happens to be a fatal one. Two types of products — insulin and the anticoagulants heparin and warfarin — were most often linked to medication errors during the study period.

During the tenure of a former U.S. president in recent history, the world was shocked when it was revealed that unwitting public were used as experimental lab animals when toxic cancer treatment were administered to them regularly and the effects of the drugs were studied. The study went haplessly wrong with many developing incurable cancers and the matter was hushed up with the President offering an apology and huge sums of money were silently paid as compensation to those unfortunate victims. But then after a week no one bothered to remember the gory incident!!!!!!!! Later an “ X- FILE” was made on it and beamed across the world. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Many such stories and even more gross stories are being pushed under the carpets! But who is to bell the cat?
