Whiplash injury causes persistent

Researchers at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark, in a first of its kind study compared a group of whiplash patients with a group of ankle injury

Researchers at Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark, in a first of its kind study compared a group of whiplash patients with a group of ankle injury patients. They found that those who suffered a whiplash injury had pain in the neck, head, shoulder, arm and even lower back which persisted for up to a year. In the study of the two groups, pain in the ankle injury group declined rapidly, more or less disappearing after a month while in the whiplash injury group patients were still in pain a year on, though the intensity was not great. They also found that patients with most pain, in the whiplash group, also had non-pain symptoms like dizziness, irritability, and forgetfulness. In conclusion, it was indicated that whiplash pain, though benign, lead to frequent and long-lasting pain.
