The All England Club has banned the use of vuvuzelas during Wimbledon, because the deafening plastic trumpets have attracted complaints from viewers and players alike at this year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa. None of the Wimbledon games will be played on the big screens and fans with large England flags will be stopped from entering.
A spokesman for the tournament said of the vuvuzelas: "From a noise point of view they could be very distracting to the players and spectators. We think the fans will understand."
"We understand that people would like to follow the World Cup but there are plenty of ways to do that without watching it here on the big screens," The Telegraph quoted a Wimbledon spokesman, as saying.
Between 450,000 and 460,000 people are expected to pass through Wimbledon's gates over the fortnight.
