A 25-year old woman lost her life after she was given blood of a wrong blood group at a government-run hospital in Bangalore.
Rajeshwari BG who had been suffering from anemia for the last four years, was admitted to the KC Hospital for blood transfusion. Rajeshwari’s blood group was O positive but she was given B positive blood.

When she saw that the blood bottle had B positive written on it, she tried to point out the mistake to both her family and the hospital staff but was told that the sticker was wrong and there was no mistake. She developed complications like vomiting, dysentery and diarrhea before losing her life soon after.

“She saw a bottle which had B+ written on it, and raised an alarm. But the nursing staff tried to pacify her, saying the sticker was wrong and it was fine”, her elder sister Jayalakshmi said. Malleswaram police have booked a case against Dr Suresh, a physician, nurse Bhagyalakshmi and two other employees of the government-run KC General Hospital.
