Woman Dies Due to Complications After £7000 Gastric Band Surgery
An obese postmistress, who underwent a 7,000-pound operation to have one of her gastric bands fitted in order to control her 'sweet tooth', just a week before Christmas last year, died after complications.
Doreen Costall, 59, who had undergone the operation at private Claremont Hospital in Sheffield, felt acute pain after being discharged and her husband Brian phoned nurses for advice, but said they dismissed it as 'wind'.

The following day she had to be rushed to Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Cambs, where it was discovered that bile was leaking out from the gastric band filling her body, reports the Daily Star.

After a couple of weeks the grandmother and mother of three, who ran the post office in Doddington, Cambs, for 28 years with her husband, died from multiple organ failure.

Doreen was said to have a BMI of 43, almost double the rating for 'normal', due to her sweet tooth.
