A white couple has revealed how a mistake at an IVF clinic almost destroyed their lives. In an interview to The Sun, the couple spoke of the emotional trauma that they had to undergo when they came to know that the woman's eggs had been impregnated with an Asian man's sperm.
The couple had twins and it was quite obvious that they were different. They were treated at a fertility clinic run by Leeds NHS Trust. "I was physically sick. The thought that I'd had children with a stranger felt like a violation in itself. Our happiness at having our longed-for babies was shattered," the woman said. Her husband admitted, "many men in my position would have walked away". He also said his wife was scared he would not accept the twins. "She was scared I would reject the twins and her. But that never entered my mind." He said that he loved the twins and they loved him.
The couple both aged 35 went for IVF after trying to conceive for six years with no results. The Sun had reported the case in 2002, but the couple has come forward now to reveal their anguish so that others do not experience the same thing.
