Womb Transplant Recipient Has to Terminate Pregnancy on Medical Advice
A 22-year old Turkish woman who became pregnant after undergoing the first successful womb transplant surgery had to terminate her pregnancy after doctors revealed that the baby had no heart beat.
Derya Sert was born without a womb but underwent a successful womb transplant from a dead donor back in August 2011.

She had since been receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and her pregnancy was announced back in April. However doctors at the Akdeniz University Hospital in Antalya revealed that her pregnancy was terminated after they failed to found any heart beat in the embryo.

“Derya Sert's pregnancy was terminated after her end of eight weeks examination showed no embryo heartbeat. The general health status of the patient is fine. IVF will be continued when she is ready, in appropriate conditions”, the hospital statement said.
