A new study published in Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking suggests that women are as susceptible as men in getting addicted to cybersex.
The study was conducted by a group of German researchers who were looking into the role of anticipating and receiving sexual gratification in the development of cybersex addiction. The researchers limited their study to heterosexual women under 30 years of age and found that heavy use of online pornography sites led to women becoming ‘hypersexual’, a personality disorder in which an individual spends excessive time engaging in sexual fantasies and urges or in planning for and engaging in sexual behavior.

“Results indicated internet porn users rated pornographic pictures as more arousing and reported greater craving due to pornographic picture presentation compared with non-users. Moreover craving, sexual arousal rating of pictures, sensitivity to sexual excitation, problematic sexual behavior and severity of psychological symptoms predicted tendencies toward cybersex addiction in internet porn users”, lead researcher Professor Matthias Brand, of Duisburg-Essen University, said.
