Women Who Have Sex in Teens More Likely to Get Divorced in Later Life

A new study conducted by researchers from the University of Iowa has suggested that the divorce rates among women who lose their virginity in their teenage is almost double compared to those who wait until they are adults. The researchers used data from a previous study conducted by in 2002 which polled more than 3,700 women regarding marriage, family and sex.

The researchers found that more than 31 percent of those who admitted losing their virginity before reaching 16 years of age had divorced within five years of their marriage compared to 15 percent of those who had waited until they turned adults.

Commenting on the study, lead researcher Anthony Palk said, “The results are consistent with the argument that there are downsides to adolescent sexuality, including the increased likelihood of divorce.”
