56% working women have children with problems like obesity, while kids whose moms work part time are better off with 28% of children being unhealthy.
A new lifestyle study by Assocham Development Foundation claims that most working mothers have unhealthy children. Almost 56% working women have children with problems like obesity, while kids whose moms work part time are better off with 28% of children being unhealthy, while only 16% children of homemakers are unhealthy. Childhood obesity can lead to obesity-related conditions like cardio-vascular disease, diabetes and fatty liver disease later in life. Children whose mothers work full time tend to eat more junk food and are less likely to eat fruits and vegetables. Instead of playing outdoor games, children of working parents tend to remain indoors playing computer games or watching television while eating junk food. The job pressure also leaves mothers with less time to cook healthy family meals. Working parents spend more money eating outside. Such children have more erratic eating schedules and have TV dinners more often.
Mothers who work part-time have a slightly healthier regime, while the children of mothers who do not work have the most nutritious diets and enjoy more exercise.
This study was done on 2,000 students in 25 schools from various cities across India.
