Atrium Medical Corporation and Kaneka Corporation have announced the introduction of the Xpress-Way RX Extraction Catheter in the United States.
The catheter can be useful for the removal of emboli and thrombi from vessels in the coronary and peripheral vasculature. These thrombi can be removed even if they are soft and freshly formed as well, the company's press release said.

"Xpress-Way RX incorporates an innovative removable stylet and has been designed with enhanced pushability, anti-kinking, trackability, and crossability which allows for unmatched deliverability and market leading performance," the release added.

Usually a soft fresh thrombus is removed from a vessel by using suction force. Such manual extraction techniques are common in patients that have heart attacks. But the new device promises to revolutionize this process. The system is marketed as Thrombuster II in Japan.
