Prof Maria Fidela de Lima Navarro, president of the International Association for Dental Research, USA, has said that India needs to make big strides in research in oral healthcare. "The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) offers fellowship worth $ 75,000 for research, but no Indian has applied," Prof Maria said on the sidelines of the 23rd national conference of the Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR), which kicked off in Chennai today.
Elaborating on the issue, S M Balaji, Secretary General, ISDR, said it was a sad situation that no one had clained the research grant. "As the scope for research was huge, and the need higher, the Indian dentists come forward and use opportunities from associations like these," he stressed.
The Indian Society for Dental Research (ISDR) is one of the leading bodies representing dentists in India. The society is the brainchild of Prof M Rahmatulla, who conceived its formation in 1984 and set the ball in motion in 1986.
