In a ghastly attack on a young woman, an Australian man gouged out both her eyes with an electric cattle prod.
Believed to be the 28-year-old woman's partner, a man of around 30 years was arrested in the wee hours of the morning, after the incident. The horrific string of events began with an argument between both of them, heard on the streets of a Victorian country town- Malmsbury, 100 km northwest of Melbourne. This was followed by the man chasing down the woman. He allegedly attacked her with a cattle prod, and when she managed to escape and run, caught her again and gouged out both her eyes. The tool he used was a cattle prod, a metal instrument used to mind cattle.
According to doctors at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in East Melbourne, the woman may lose her sight though her condition is otherwise stable. She was operated upon by surgeons for 5 hours, in a bid to save her eyes.
The police managed to nab the accused from his house, though he had fled the scene after a publican came to the rescue of the woman on hearing her screams.
The man appeared before a bail justice in Kyneton on Saturday and was remanded in Bendigo over the weekend. He will appear in Kyneton Magistrate's Court today charged with 12 offences which include recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing serious injury, common law assault, threats to kill and possessing a prohibited weapon.
