What are the Symptoms and Signs of Polyarthritis?
- Polyarthritis symptoms include swelling, joint pain, tenderness, stiffness and decreased range of motion.
- Joint and musculoskeletal pain is common to all types of polyarthritis.
- There may be a feeling of warmth and redness of skin over the affected joint.
- The joint symptoms may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, night sweats, weight loss, tiredness or skin rashes.
- You may also experience weakness and muscle wasting.
- Weight loss and loss of appetite
Symptoms may stay the same for years or get worse over time.
What are the Complications of Polyarthritis?
- Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, inability to do daily activities and make it difficult to even walk or climb stairs.
- Arthritis can also cause permanent changes in your joints. These changes may be visible, such as knobby finger joints, but often the damage can only be seen on x- ray.
- Some types of arthritis also affect the heart (rheumatic fever), eyes, lungs, kidneys and skin (SLE) as well as the joints.
