Preparation of Semen Sample
The male partner is required to produce the semen sample at the same time of oocyte collection. This can be done by masturbation or it can be collected at home provided he will be able to transport it to the hospital within 20 to 25 minutes. Different fluids and different techniques are used in preparing the sample.
The choice of a particular method is dependent on the obtained sample and the discretion of the physician. The main aim of the sperm preparation is to remove dead or immotile spermatozoa and other debris, thereby ensuring that only normal motile spermatozoa are left behind.
