What is Scalded Skin Syndrome ?  

Infection with certain strains of Staphylococcu bacteria produces a poison that causes damage to the skin with blisters as if the skin were scalded. Most commonly found in infants and children under 5 years of age.


Cause(s) :  
  • Staphylococcus bacteria infection
Symptoms :  
  • Blisters on the skin, as if it was scalded
  • Large areas of skin peeling
  • Painful skin
  • Redness of the skin, may spread to cover most of the body
  • Gentle pressure applied to the skin may make it come off, leaving wet read areas
Diagnosis and Tests :  
  • Complete blood count
  • Skin culture
  • Blood culture
  • Throat and nose lining culture
  • Skin biopsy
