Fear of Flying
Getting down to brass tacks
Fear of flying is an anxiety disorder; it is a specific phobia.
It is a question of ‘Oh gosh! What is going to happen?’ rather than ‘What is really happening?’ that is uppermost on a frightened passengers’ mind.
One should be afraid if the pilot or cabin crew announces a real emergency- one of the engines catching fire-but, to imagine emergencies when all functional components are working to a T is being needlessly anxious.
Many individual conditions too may cause aviophobia; they may not be necessarily related to flying.
