Recommended Vaccinations
Make sure you have taken all the ‘routine’ vaccinations. If you have young children or adolescents traveling, check their schedules too. There are separate vaccination schedules for adults and children. By taking these vaccines, you may well save yourself from these diseases. Make sure you carry a copy of the immunization schedule with you.
Routine vaccines include DPT, Polio, Varicella, Influenza and MMR; these can be taken at any stage in an individual’s life. In fact, these vaccines should be taken, irrespective of whether one is venturing overseas or not.
It should be mentioned here that the U.K. faced an outbreak of Mumps in 2005-6; the disease is still endemic to the region.
Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for all unvaccinated travelers, especially those who are likely to come in contact with body fluids or indulge in any kind of sexual contacts.
Rabies Vaccine is highly recommended for travelers who are likely to work with or come into contact with animals like dogs, cats or bats. Cave explorers are advised to get this vaccine.
