AIRPORT
TAX
Government of
India levies airport tax of Rs.150/- per person on departure by air from
India for neighbouring countries. For International Travel the Airport Tax
is Rs.500/-
CLIMATE
Weather in August in Chennai is pleasant with temperatures around 30
Degree Celsius there
could be monsoon rains. Cotton clothing or light clothes are recommended.
CURRENCY
The currency
acceptable is Indian Rupee. Exchange rate can be obtained at the Hotel,
Bank
or at the Foreign Exchange Counters. Most establishments will accept credit
cards.
VOLTAGE
The Voltage is
220-240 volts AC.
TRANSPORTATION
Call
Taxis, Metered Taxis and Autorickshaws are available. Chennai has the
largest metropolitan bus service network in India. In addition three
suburban train lines operate catering to the large population.
Complimentary Airport pickup by cars/buses will be available and the
delegates booked in conference venue hotels.
LANGUAGE
The official
language of the congress is English.
FOOD
Chennai is the
centre for the delicious and world famous South Indian curry. Both
vegetarians and non-vegetarians will find Chennai to be a paradise with an
excellent variety of food to suit the individual palate and purse. Good
restaurants are located near the Conference venue and all over the city.
SHOPPING
Chennai is
famous for Silk (The world famous Kancheepuram Silk Sarees) and
cotton wear, leather products and handicrafts.
